第だい１０じゅう話わの舞台ぶたいは、静岡しずおか県けん島田しまだ市し金谷かなやです。

During the Edo period, Kanaya belonged to Tōtōmi Province.

江戸えど時代じだい、金谷かなやは、遠えん州しゅう（遠江とおとうみ国のくに）に属ぞくしていました。

* Enshū is one of the provinces of Japan under the centralized government system called Ritsuryōsei, another name for Tōtōmi Province, and refers to the east part of Shizuoka prefecture today.

※ 遠州えんしゅうとは、遠江とおとうみ国のくにの別称べっしょうで、日本にほんの令りょう制せい国こくの一ひとつです。現在げんざいの静岡しずおか県けんの西部せいぶに相当そうとうします。

In Kanaya, there was a lodging town “Kanaya-juku” on the Fifty-three stations of the Tōkaidō.

金谷かなやには、東海道とうかいどう五十三次ごじゅうさんつぎの宿場しゅくば 『金谷かなや宿じゅく』がありました。

* A lodging town (relay station) is a town that was set up in the Edo period to handle business such as accommodation and mail on the Gokaidō(Edo Five Routes).

※ 宿場しゅくば（宿駅しゅくえき）とは、江戸えど時代じだいに、五ご街道かいどうなどにおいて、宿泊しゅくはくや郵便ゆうびんなどの業務ぎょうむを取とり扱あつかうため設定せっていされた町まちのことです。

* The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō refers to 53 lodging towns on the Tōkaidō, one of the Edo Five Routes constructed during the Edo period.

※ 東海道とうかいどう五十三次ごじゅうさんつぎとは、江戸えど時代じだいに整備せいびされた五ご街道かいどうの一ひとつで、東海道とうかいどうにある５３の宿場しゅくばを指さします。

* Gokaidō is Edo Five Routes to the Tokaido, Nakasendo, Nikko Kaido, Oshu Kaido, and Koshu Kaido, which extend from Nihonbashi of Edo in the Edo period.

※ 五ご街道かいどうは、江戸えど時代じだいの江戸えどの日本橋にほんばしを起点きてんに伸のびる東海道とうかいどう、中山道なかせんどう、日光にっこう街道かいどう、奥州おうしゅう街道かいどう、甲州こうしゅう街道かいどうの五いつつを指さします。

Kanaya is a town with abundant water with a wide river.

『金谷かなや』は、川幅かわはばの広ひろい川かわが流ながれる、水みずの豊ゆたかな町まちです。

The name of this river is “Ōi River”.

この川かわの名前なまえは、『大井川おおいがわ』です。

It is a very wide river.

川幅かわはばがかなり広ひろい川かわです。

Therefore, it is a different river from the one where Mugen and Shoryu fought.

ですので、ムゲンと昇竜しょうりゅうが戦たたかったのとはまた別べつの川かわです。

It looks good wide and open.

広ひろくて、開放かいほう感かんのある感かんじが良よいですね。

The name of this bridge is “Hōrai Bridge”.

この橋はしの名前なまえは、『蓬萊橋ほうらいばし』です。

Horai Bridge is said to be the longest wooden pedestrian bridge in the world.

この『蓬萊橋ほうらいばし』は、世界一せかいいち長ながい木造もくぞう歩道橋ほどうきょうといわれています。

According to the official page of Shimada City, the total length is 897.4 meters and the traffic width is 2.4 meters.

島田しまだ市しの公式こうしきページによると、全長ぜんちょうは８９７．４メートル、通行つうこう幅はばは２．４メートルあります。

Business hours are from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening.

営業えいぎょう時間じかんは、朝あさ８時じ３０分ふんから夕方ゆうがた１７時じの間あいだまで。

A toll fee of 100 yen will be charged.

通行つうこう料りょうが１００円えん掛かかります。

Although not introduced here, Kanaya is also famous for railways and tea.
