Ep.#5 Haneda in Tōkyō | 東京 羽田

第だい５ご話わの舞台ぶたいは、東京とうきょう都と 大田おおた区 く羽田はねだです。

The official name is Tōkyō　International Airport.

正式せいしき名称めいしょうは、東京とうきょう国際こくさい空港くうこう。

It has expanded by reclaiming Tōkyō Bay.

羽田空港はねだくうこうは、東京湾とうきょうわんを埋うめ立たてることにより拡張かくちょうしてきました。

It is the largest airport in Japan with good access from central Tōkyō.

東京とうきょう都心としんからのアクセスも良よい、日本にほん最大さいだいの面積めんせきを有ゆうする空港くうこうです。

フウ一行いっこうが渡わたろうとしているのは、多摩川たまがわです。

川崎かわさきから東京とうきょう方面ほうめんへ向むかうには、多摩川たまがわを渡わたる必要ひつようがあるためです。

多摩川たまがわは古ふるくから“暴あばれ川かわ”とよばれ、幾度いくどもの洪水こうずいにより、その川かわの形かたちは変形へんけいしてきました。

また、掛かけた橋はしも頻繁ひんぱんに流ながされてしまいました。

Therefore, a ferry was used to cross the Tama River.

そのため、多摩川たまがわを渡わたるには渡わたし舟ぶねが使用しようされていました。

“Watashi” refers to carrying people and things by ship, the ferry, and the place of departure and arrival of the ship.

『渡わたし』とは、船ふねで人ひとや物ものを運はこぶこと、その渡わたし舟ぶね、船ふねの発着はっちゃく場所ばしょのことをいいます。

It is said that there were 41 crossings of the Tama River from the upstream to the vicinity of Haneda.

多摩川たまがわの渡わたしは、上流じょうりゅうから羽田はた付近ふきんまで４１か所しょあったといわれています。

Haneda’s ferry was a fairly large one that could accommodate 20 to 30 people, and the things needed for daily life were transported.

羽田はたの渡わたしは、２０～３０人にんの人々ひとびとが乗のれるかなり大おおきなもので、この船ふねを利用りようして生活せいかつに必要ひつような物ものが往来おうらいしていました。

Currently, the wide riverbed of the Tama River is a park and grounds where you can enjoy and play baseball.

現在げんざい、多摩川たまがわの広ひろい河川敷かせんしきは公園こうえんや野球やきゅうなどを楽たのしめるグラウンドとなっています。

Haneda was originally the bottom of the shallow sea.

羽田はねだは、元々もともとは浅あさい海うみの底そこでした。

This can be seen from the fact that the stratum below the land is made of sand and clay, and that a lot of shellfish come out from it.

このことは、土地とちの下方かほうにおける地層ちそうが砂すなや粘土ねんどでできていること、そこから貝かいがらが、たくさん出でてくることからもわかります。

However, over the years, it became a tidal flat due to the accumulation of soil and sand carried from the Tama River.

しかし長ながい年月ねんげつをかけて、多摩川たまがわから運はこばれた土どや砂すなが堆積たいせきしたことにより、干潟ひがたとなりました。

At Bakumatsu, the end of the Edo period(1603-1868), a battery was installed to defend Edo.

幕末ばくまつ、江戸えど防衛ぼうえいのため砲台ほうだいが設置せっちされました。

From the Meiji era to the Taisho era, stadiums and amusement parks were built.

明治めいじから大正たいしょうにかけて、球場きゅうじょうや遊園ゆうえん地ちが建設けんせつされました。

In 1918, a flight school was opened in Haneda.

大正たいしょう６年ねんになると、羽田はねだに飛行ひこう学校がっこうが開校かいこうしました。

Haneda Airport opened in 1958.

そして昭和しょうわ６年ねん、羽田はねだ飛行場ひこうじょうが開港かいこうしました。

It is the current Tokyo International Airport (commonly known as Haneda Airport).

現在げんざいの東京とうきょう国際こくさい空港くうこう（通称つうしょう、羽田空港はねだくうこう）です。

The place-name “Haneda” existed before Haneda Airport was built.

「羽田はねだ」という地名ちめいは、羽田空港はねだくうこうが建設けんせつされる以前いぜんからありました。

その一いち、海老えび取とり川かわを挟はさんだ土地とちの形かたちが鳥とりの羽はねのように見みえる、肥沃ひよくな田地でんちだったこと。

Two. It changed from “Hanida” which means lowland, or “Harita” which means cultivated land.

その二に、低てい湿地しっちを意味いみする『埴田はにだ』、あるいは開墾かいこん地ちを意味いみする『墾田はりた』から転てんじた。

Three. It was a rice field where the wings of birds fell.

その三さん、鳥とりの羽はねが落おちる田地でんちだった。
