It is one of the “five confucian virtues” in Confucianism.

儒教じゅきょうにおける『五常ごじょうの徳とく』のひとつです。

“Five Confucian Virtues” are the five Confucian virtues, which refer to “仁ren(humanity),” “義(righteousness),” “礼Li(good manner etc.),” “智(wisdom),” and “信(belief).”

『五常ごじょうの徳とく』とは、儒教じゅきょうの５つの徳目とくもくで、『仁じん』『義ぎ』『礼れい』『智ち』『信しん』を指さします。

In addition, Confucius does not have a clear definition of “jin”, and answers variously depending on the questioner in “The Analects”.

また孔子こうしは『仁じん』について明確めいかくな定義ていぎをしておらず、『論語ろんご』の中なかで質問しつもん相手あいてによって様々さまざまに答こたえています。

巧言令色

書かき下くだし文ぶん：

巧言こうげんは仁者じんしゃではない

Modern Translation:

現代語げんだいご訳やく：

There is no 仁(jin) who say words that are cleverly decorated in order to be loved by someone, or who pretend to be friendly only on the surface. (Xue Er)

相手あいてが気きに入いるように巧たくみに飾かざられた言葉ことばを述のべたり、うわべだけ愛想あいそよく取とり繕つくろったりするような人ひとに仁じんは無ない。（学がく而じ）
